About Michael Barrett: Since the age of six Michael D Barrett has been a student of music. He began with the accordian, moved onto piano and later got into various keyboards. As a sight impaired person since birth, he had to read and memorize all his music. That combined with having an excellent ear, enabled him to take full advantage of studying with the fabulous instructor and jazz musician: Charlie Banacas, who also for a certain period in his teaching career, taught at the Berkley College of Music in Boston. In addition to studying Jazz, he also dabbled in classical organ and became some-what proficient in service playing and directed a few choir's and numerous ensembles. He later got into recording and producing and has had the privilege of working with musician friends like: sax player Bob Kirby, Eddie Saindon-professor of vibes-at the Berkley College of Music in Boston, guitar player Ari Mendes and producer: Hary King, who taught and schooled Michael in the art of recording and producing. As a student of life, Michael feels that he has so much more to learn, but has that much more to be grateful for. He attributes his musical talent and willingness to persevere in all things to his mother, Evelyn Barrett Shields, who has always been an inspiration to him and his five brothers and who is, at one and the same time, a wonderful vocalist who taught Michael his very first song on the piano at the age of six: "When The Saints Come Marching In." More recently, he assisted in producing a project with three of his brothers and their adopted brother-Garrett, who make up the 'Grinnin Barrett Band. Having produced several inspirational CD's, he recently released his latest offering: "River Walk" A Tribute to the Boston Red Sox, which is a compilation of various tunes that would best be described as Light Jazz. The project incorporates some familiar tunes that many a worshipping Christian would identify with based on their experience of singing them for centuries around the world in some of the most esteemed Cathedrals and Churches known throughout Christendom. In addition to these various interpretations of popular hymn tunes, River Walk also offers an array of original compositions arranged and performed by Michael which is further enhanced by Ari Mendes on guitar and Bob Kirby on sax. About River Walk

While living in a section of Boston, known as the Fenway, just two blocks from the Champs' Stadium, I was in the habit of taking a walk most every day along the Charles River. One day as I was walking, this melody kept playing over and over in my head. So I went home and began to develop it a bit more in my little home based recording studio: basicly, a corner of my bedroom. A short time later, I shared the idea with my friends Bob Kirby who eventually layed down the Soprano Sax track and guitar player Ari, from Amen Studio, who assisted in the final production of the tune entitled: ' River Walk. Other tracks on the project were created during this same period. One worth noting was created about 3 in the morning, with headphones of course. I rose and began arranging a song based on an old English melody known to most as: 'Scarborough Fair.' Seeing that my first experience in recording music occurred in a little studio on Newbury Street, where many years before, prompted me to call the arrangement: "Ten-Eleven" This was the address of First Take, owned and operated by Bob Kirby, where many graduates from the Berkley College of Music, living in the Boston area, got their start in the mid to late eighties. One name that stands out among the many great musicians who frequented First Take is Dan Cantor of Notable Productions in Watertown MA. The studio was located right next to the Ritz. Not too shabby AYE? A few weeks ago, one of my semi-tech-savvy colleagues stopped me to ask about the increasingly popular business social network LinkedIn.com. She, like I’ll bet many of you who sit in cubicles or offices day after day, had received an e-mail with the subject line: “Invitation to connect on LinkedIn.” It read, “I’d like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn,” and it was signed, most likely, by some barely remembered colleague from another time and another company.What’s this LinkedIn thing, she wanted to know, and why would anybody want to connect to her? And once connected, what exactly was she supposed to do?

All valid questions. Not questions I’d ask, but then again, I’m a social-network fiend. If there’s a new social network out there, I’m probably on it. But not everyone is like that. Lorraine Ball, president of Carmel marketing company Roundpeg and a member of the local social network Smaller Indiana, said it’s a generational thing. “I think that 90 percent of the people who sign up and register have no idea what to do,” she said of LinkedIn and Smaller Indiana. LinkedIn relies on the three-degrees-of- separation rule — that each of our friends or colleagues knows someone whom we would like to know. If you build your business correctly, follow the simple, duplicatable, system, you can set you and your family up with a serious, residual income for the rest of your life. That's about all that I can remember hearing, almost 4 years ago, when I joined Network Marketing, for the first time! I was so excited! I couldn't wait to get out and tell all my friends about how they could save and make all this money! But, wait a second... I wasn't thinking about following the simple system that my friends used to introduce me to the business! I just had to tell someone about what I had my hands on!

I remember listening to an audio cassette tape by one of my mentors, Robert Fason, and hearing him say, "If you're not doing to your friends, what they can go do to their friends, your business will not grow to where you want it to. It'll still be dependent on you 10 years from now." After listening to that cassette, over and over, and finally understanding what it means now, this "duplication" concept is really hitting home to me. That phrase keeps playing over and over in my mind, and I realize now, that by running out and telling my friends all about what I'd just found, I was ruining their chances at ever being successful. Now, almost 4 years later, after realizing what I did to them, and really getting back to the basics of the business, some of my friends are paying more attention to what I'm doing.

I keep telling myself, "No matter how bad you want to just tell them about everything that's going on, you have got to keep it, fun, simple, magical and duplicatable." It's pretty exciting to hear that people like, Donald Trump, Robert Kiyosaki, and Warren Buffet, are really promoting this industry right now! Just knowing that has to make you feel really good inside, even when your "best friend or brother-in-law" is out telling everyone, everything they "know", doesn't it?

So, the simple, yet often misunderstood word, Duplication, is all that more important to understand, knowing that big-dogs like those guys, know what we know, right? That's why the title to this article, When the Dust Settles, was chosen. In my opinion, that's one of the main reasons many Network Marketers fail, before they ever really begin in their quest with each of their respective businesses! They run out, tell everyone they know about their new-found opportunity, don't follow the duplicatable system that their Network Marketing business already had established for them, and most of their friends and family shut them down, before they ever get to check out the facts, and see all the details for themselves. Now, I finally understand why and how to keep what we do, duplicatable.

As another of my mentors and good friend, Matt Parr, says, "A leader of one can someday be a leader of many, but if he can't lead one... he probably won't ever lead any." How bad do you want time and financial freedom for you and your family? When you hear things like a 6-figure, residual income for the rest of your life, what does hearing that do inside of you? Hopefully it gets you so jacked up, you can't wait to tell everyone you know about the exciting opportunity you have your hands on, the right way! It still just absolutely blows my mind that how just helping a few "key people" and keeping it duplicatable can create such an awesome lifestyle change for so many people we know! Never before, in my lifetime, have I ever seen or heard of more people that are looking to make a change in their lives! We are so lucky to be in the industry that we are in, because we have what everyone is looking for... they just don't know we have it! So... let's get out there and change as many people's lives as we possibly can!
Dream big and realize that anything you want in your life can be yours! Just be brave enough to stick your head up above the crowd, go against the flow, and get ready to achieve all your Dreams and Goals!

I was laid off from an MLM company as the General Manager, and I am looking to do something online with my recent skills. Would my thirteen months of experience managing approximately 3,700 MLM people can equate into an affiliate management job? What’s the next step?
I’d say that if you are really interested in getting into affiliate management, the first thing you should do is to strike any reference to MLM from your resume.
MLM has a negative connotation among affiliate marketers, so it won’t do you any favor to include it in your credentials.

Whether fair or not, lots of folks consider MLM to be one in the same with pyramid schemes and fraud. In order to be a good affiliate manager, one thing you need is to be a good communicator. That is not something you’ll necessarily have from a previous job. Either you’re a good communicator or you’re not. Also, one way to get a good view of affiliate marketing is to be an affiliate yourself. Get your hands dirty as an affiliate to better understand what affiliates want and need.

You should also have a good grasp on the issues in the industry, which you can gain from the industry podcasts, forums, and blogs.

The celebrated philanthropist went on to predict the dawn of a day when “the man who dies possessed of available millions which were free and in his hands to distribute, will die disgraced”

Philanthropy UK, an independent resource for donors, has noticed the trend. One of the key findings of a report the organisation published in September 2007 was that more people are giving during their lifetimes, as opposed to making legacy bequests. “They want to see the impact of their contribution and to experience the joy and rewards of giving,” the report’s authors wrote. Wealth advisers and private banks are also seeing a change in donor attitudes. “Philanthropy remains a vital part of estate planning,” says Lisa Philp, managing director and head of philanthropic services at JPMorgan Private Bank. “But what’s keeping us busy is an increasing number of clients who want to start their giving much earlier, in the peak years of their life.”
Part of the reason behind the increasing desire of donors to distribute their wealth to good causes during their lifetimes is a shift in the source of the wealth itself. Fifteen years ago, 75 per cent of the individuals on the Sunday Times Rich List had inherited their wealth, while 25 per cent were self-made, according to Philanthropy UK. Today, that ratio has been reversed.
“In the past, the money was inherited,” says Heather Maizels, a director at Barclays Wealth. “If wealth was inherited, there was a feeling it wasn’t owned – and legally sometimes it wasn’t – and people were stewards for the next generation.”

Instead, she says, the new philanthropists have largely made their money themselves, through earnings and bonuses or perhaps by selling a business or stock options. And because this gives them a greater sense of ownership, they are keen to become more involved in the charities they decide to fund. As a result, many want to have a hand in designing the programmes they fund, to monitor their progress and to take stock of the results.
In doing so, they can turn to a growing number of advisers and consultants, from private banks to organisations such as the Charities Aid Foundation, which offers a range of services that make donating easier and more tax-efficient and help donors track the effectiveness of their gifts. New Philanthropy Capital in the UK conducts extensive research for donors and recommends specific charities.

Another reason for the increase in lifetime giving is a concern by wealthy individuals not to ruin their children’s lives. Wealth managers and private banks talk of clients whose main concern is ascertaining the appropriate amount of money that they should pass on to their offspring.
“You have a generation of self-created men and women, who have children and don’t want to burden them with massive amounts of wealth,” says Salvatore LaSpada, chief executive of the UK-based Institute for Philanthropy. “They know the adrenalin rush and personal satisfaction of building a business and want their children to have the same.”
Creating a private foundation or a donor-advised fund can bring relatives together on a project or issue of personal significance to the family and help educate children in the management of money and running an organisation. At the same time, donors are becoming more aware – either through the media or through global travel – of social and environmental problems.
“In the modern world, many more people are exposed to different issues,” says Philp. “Multinational business leaders see inequality in the world and want to do something about it with their wealth – and they want to start now.”
Changing demographics are also having an impact. Many people are creating their wealth earlier in their lifetime and retiring at a younger age but wanting to remain active. Lifetime giving provides a focus for their energies.

Wally Olins, a branding expert who is chairman of Saffron Brand Consultants, sees a further reason behind the trend towards lifetime giving: self-expression. Olins says that because of the growing numbers of rich individuals, large houses and flashy cars are no longer a sufficient demonstration of wealth. “It is becoming clear that part of the way you manifest your identity is by your giving,” he says. “Giving is the new buying – and part of how you express who you are is what you donate to.

An Excellent Home Business is one that you are starting yourself. Some of those businesses that are advertised in newspapers, magazines or on the Internet are not legitimate. In order for your business to be all that you want it to be, you need to consider how is the best way for you to do that. Talents are what you do best. Skills are the things that you can do. Talents are passive and skills are active. You are born with talents but you develop skills over the years. Talents combined with skills can go along way to making a very successful business. It might be helpful to list both when considering what home business would work for you.
Not all businesses work well as home based businesses and some won’t work at all. You might want to make a list of home based businesses. Once you have done that, go back through and mark off all the ones you don’t want to do. After that, see which ones would closely match your talents and skills. This exercise should give you a general idea which way you might want to go. It doesn’t matter how talented you are or how skillful, if no one is willing to pay for your product or service, there can be no business. You need to ask yourself how much people would be willing to pay for your product or service. Once you have figured that amount out you need to evaluate if you can live on that amount of money. It is very important to consider the profitability of any home based business. It is up to you to decide if you will make enough profit or income to be satisfied.

Business plans will help you assess the viability of your home base business opportunity. The primary reason for a business plan is to lay out your ideas for your business, to see if it can succeed. As you work through your business plan the research you do will either validate or stop your business plans. If the business plan shows you that your business ideas won’t work, put them aside and select another business opportunity. You may find you will have to do this more than once. Many people look at the same business ideas. There are more construction companies, painters and consultants than you can imagine. If you are looking for something different, here are some ideas to consider. Agritourism is a rapidly growing business. My husband and I just returned from Tahoe where we spent a few days brainstorming with a community of about 30-40 like-minded people on the topic of building wealth. I must say that ever since I decided to slow down and shift my focus a bit as we prepare for our 7th baby's arrival, I have been pleasantly surprised at how much camaraderie and support I continue to feel from those who have been our financial mentors. They know that a person should be able to make more in less time than most people think, so to announce that I am going to be more "Mom" and less "Speaker/Author/Guru/whatever" was met NOT with, "Oh, I guess you'll have to give up on your goals then..."
But more with, "It's about time you make this shift... you're doing the absolute right thing!" Would you ever expect to hear that from a multi-million dollar wealth-building mentor?I've always thought so, but even more now than ever I am realizing how true it is that prosperity is NOT one-faceted. That is why as I teach principles of prosperity, I try to make sure I teach balance as well. There is a need for rest and relaxation. There's a need for rich, rewarding relationships. There's a need for giving back, or service. There's a need for good health. None of these have to die on one's journey to prosperity.In actuality, financial prosperity comes more readily when one is at peace in the other areas of his/her life. You've heard, "attitude is everything"... and it is truer and more literal than most people realize. For example, if I am stressing out, the things I need are literally repelled. If I calm down and put myself in a peaceful state, even though I have every reason to be freaking out, then the solution flows into my life almost effortlessly. So wherein lies the effort? It lies in calming myself down. I must calm down, then get to work searching for the solution, KNOWING that because I am calm, I will find it eventually... and I proceed with expectation. Then, by LAW it must show up.So, how have I been spending most of my time? Well, most of it has been focused on helping my 11-year-old and his scouting. We've managed to get 11 merit badges in the last 2 months, and my 2-year-old learned how to swim. THAT has been worth it all.This has been an amazing experience... to choose to slow down and focus better on the family... because ever since then, after a testing period to see how committed we were to our priorities, there have been opportunities come our way that have left us nearly speechless. What used to take us a year to earn now comes to us in just one transaction... time and time again.Not only do we expect to reach the goals we had set long before news of the baby, but it seems apparent that we will far exceed them in new kinds of ventures that we never realized even existed. I'm beginning to feel like Richard who suddenly sees not just the one rabbit in his hand, but swarms of them all over the place.I promise you, they are out there... and they are out there even when you can't see them. As you learn to think according to the laws or principles of prosperity, the blinders fall from your eyes, and there they are. The purpose of this article is to assist you in understanding some of the fundamental principals of building wealth – the same principals used by those individuals and families who have already achieved great success and wealth.
The first, and most important, thing for you to understand is that you already have within you the capabilities to achieve whatever you desire. This knowledge, together with the principals we will discuss will serve as a blueprint, and starting point for you to design the life you want and to really obtain financial independence.
Take time to study and understand each of the principals discussed below. Also understand that for you to master any sustained level of financial success you must master each of the principals. Mastering these principals in an ongoing journey which will take time, initiative, resources, and action on your part. In fact, the better you become at each of the principals, and the more success you achieve, the more you will realize that there are still higher levels to achieve. The process of success truly is a lifelong journey of joy and achievement.
You need to know that your life really can change overnight! It certainly is possible for you to have sudden financial breakthrough. There are a million ways to make a million dollars. You only need to have one of them to change your life forever. Your job is to find that opportunity and be ready to take action when you do find it.
There are many wealth building, life changing opportunities, out there. Find one that is good for you, have trust and belief in yourself, and take action.
The first principal of success is the mindset for success. This is the most critical principal. Development of the millionaire mindset allows you to manifest all of your desires with ease and efficiency. This is the principal which allows you to properly manage, and grow, your wealth once you have obtained it. If you want to be wealthy, you must think the same way as the wealthy.
Take time to study those who have created fortunes for themselves. Andrew Carnegie, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett are just a few but they are great examples of those who developed a mindset of success. How do they think differently than you and I? First of all they have a complete faith in themselves and a knowing that they will attract success, and wealth, effortlessly. Success is their only option!
The second principal of success is your external environment. This includes the physical environment you create for yourself. This also includes the people you surround yourself with. Your income will become the average of the ten people you associate most closely with. Do you surround yourself with wealth building materials, books, and ideas? Do you study and surround yourself with information from and about those individuals who have achieved what you want?
The third principal of success is wisdom. Take advantage of, and use wisely, all of the opportunities which you have. Manage wisely the assets you already have so that as you obtain more, you will be able to grow that asset into even more wealth. Wealthy people spend and invest wisely. Just because they can afford something doesn’t mean that they buy it. They always spend much less than they earn. They invest in sound investments which provide an acceptable return based on their investment goals, and they are usually contrarian investors. What that means is that they do not follow the masses. If the masses are buying they are usually selling and vise versa. The wealthy are not afraid of taking risk. They use wisdom by analyzing the risk and then make good decisions based on that analysis, but they take risk.
Using the above principals it is possible for you change your life and create the life of your design.

Three Things You Must Know to Attract Success

Everyone wants success.

Some people spend their every waking moment pursuing it, to the detriment of all else. For others, attaining success seems impossible. They conclude that it is destined for a select few. The rest of us are to remain “content with such things as we have”. Having it all is not “in our stars”.However, the above assumptions couldn’t be further from the truth. When you strive for success with the wrong assumptions, you will never reach it. It’s like travelling somewhere with the wrong map. Zig Ziglar says that, “Success is a process, not an event,” “a journey, not a destination.” Jim Rohn describes it as “…a condition that must be attracted not pursued.” Do you see the pattern? “…a process, not an event.”“…a journey, not a estination.”“…a condition that must be attracted not pursued.” You can’t hurry success, catch it, or find it by chance. You can’t inherit it, gate-crash on it, or take it from some one else. Success is something you must work hard and long to earn, for yourself. It has a price, sometimes a very high one. And most people aren’t really and truly ready to pay that price, to do what success demands.
If success has eluded you so far, perhaps you should try changing your assumptions. You need to accept that: (1) You must go through a growing process, which will require time and patience, in order to achieve success. There are no short cuts. Anything else is a temporary illusion. Success that will remain with you, and bring you joy rather than sorrow, requires a learning process, a time to grow out of old habits and into new ones, a time to learn what works and what doesn’t. And you must pay your dues, in full, in advance! So don’t be in a hurry.
(2) You will need to acquire traits and skills that attract it. What does success mean to you? Identify, in specific terms, what you regard as success. What traits or skills will you need to achieve this goal? Set clear, written goals. Devise plans to acquire the needed traits and skills. Learn to do what you need to do, to get where you want to go. What kinds of people have what you want? What do they do, or not do, that helps them get and keep it? If you do what they do and avoid what they avoid, there’s a good chance that you will end up with what they have.
Find 2 or 3 people who have what you want. Write down the habits that have made them successful and resolve to copy them. Starting now! This is called mentoring, learning from others who have arrived where you want to go. Mentoring can cut out the heart-aches of trial and error. A mentor can keep you focused and on track. Once you learn to do what it takes, you qualify. And when you qualify, success comes looking for you. You just can’t be denied! What a relief from the days when you ran after it! You fulfill the requirements and attract success to yourself. Opportunities open up to you, and when they do, they find you ready to grasp them.
(3) You must be ready to travel the road to success, oftentimes alone. It’s been said that, “At some point in time, the pursuit of your goals becomes secondary and what you have become in the process…..is what is most important. It’s not the distance you go…so much as the going itself” (Les Brown). Parents, remember when you tried to teach your children to crawl? You put their favourite toy in front of them and teased them forward, inch by inch. They were after the toy, which kept them motivated. But you wanted to strengthen their muscles and teach them a new skill. When they became good at reaching the toy, they had learned to crawl. After that, they could reach any destination they wanted, without you and the toy!
The DESTINATION was less important. They became champion crawlers in the PROCESS!
That’s what the journey to success does to you. It causes you to learn habits and skills that make you “full of success”, or “successful”. Because you have now mastered the skills and the process, you can keep on reproducing success. You now have what it takes. But if you try to “gate-crash”, you don’t get to learn the process and the skills. You cannot reproduce success, in the same or different scenarios. You do not have the tools for acquiring it; you only have a mirage. In other words, you have not become successful. Should calamity strike, you are back to square one, and you’ll quite likely be there a long time. Anyone can identify what success means to them and go after it. If you don’t mind the hard work and waiting, success can be yours. You can become the kind of person who attracts what he or she wants rather than running after it. Funny enough, when you are ready for success you attract it, with little effort.
When you are not, it runs from you, no matter how hard you chase. In other words, you repel it! Most likely, this is the reason that success eludes people. Now that you know how to attract success, why not get started on the journey or process that will take you where you want to go? Any one can succeed, but unfortunately not every one will. It’s your decision to choose. Fate does not foist it upon you. You can have anything you want in life, if you’re ready to pay the price. But if you consider the process too hard, too slow, or the distance too long and lonely, you have qualified your self as a looser; painful but true. So don’t short-change yourself with short-cuts and counterfeits. You can have the real thing. Go out there today and start attracting success. It’s literally yours for the taking!
